Showcase your volunteer programme during Volunteers' Week!

We’d love to invite you to showcase your volunteer programme during Volunteers' Week (2-8 June). Volunteers’ Week is an annual, UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.

At Make Your Mark, we will be celebrating Volunteers' Week in two ways:

1. Sharing heritage volunteer stories

Celebrate your volunteers by sharing their stories via short blogs!

The blogs will feature on our website, and be promoted across our social media channels (@MakeYourMarkVol on Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky) during Volunteers' Week.

This is a great chance to feature and reward your volunteers for their amazing work! Sharing volunteers’ perspectives is also a key way that we can encourage new people to volunteer with heritage organisations. It gives those curious about heritage volunteering a sense of the breadth and type of roles available, and the reasons to volunteer.

To submit a blog, volunteers can fill out this short form, which has 4 short questions:

• What tasks do you undertake as part of your volunteer role?
• What led you to start volunteering?
• What attracted you to the heritage and/or conservation sector?
• How has volunteering impacted your life?

2. Promoting heritage volunteer opportunities

Are you looking to recruit new volunteers ahead of the busy summer season?

Make Your Mark has a free volunteer advertising portal that members can use to promote their volunteering opportunities. Joining Make Your Mark is open to all heritage organisations in Scotland, and is free to join.

Access our short tutorials to learn how to register for an account on our portal, as well as upload opportunities and ensure role descriptions are accessible and inclusive.

We will be promoting opportunities listed on the portal across our channels during Volunteers' Week to encourage people to get involved.
